Liliana Chavez, Outreach Specialist
Rosa Liliana Chavez Cardenas was born in Tocumbo, Michoacán México. She arrived in California in February 2009 and shortly after arriving she began attending English classes at the adult school. Since then, she has attended classes and little by little learned some words in English. At first it was very difficult and stressful since she didn't understand anything. There were moments where she wanted to give up.
She still fought against the obstacles of learning a new language and she continued to attend classes and did not give up. Over time she was also encouraged to enrolled in the High School Equivalency Program, and with her effort and dedication she managed to receive her diploma.
She continues to grow her English skills, and is also taking Child Development courses in order to obtain a program certificate of completion.
Today, Rosa Liliana is not only a student, she is also part of the adult school as a worker with the title of Outreach & Support Specialist. She is very grateful for this opportunity as she has learned a lot over the years being part of the adult school in different ways.
In the words of Rosa Liliana, “if I could do it, you can do it! Come and you will see that little by little one learns!”
