Amilamia Zenteno
Amilamia Zenteno, Outreach & Support Specialist
Amilamia Zenteno, most commonly known as Ami, was raised in the U.S. by Mexican parents. Her mom is from Chiapas, and her dad from Oaxaca. Ami is the oldest of three children, and loves spending time with her family when she has free time. In Spring of 2023, Ami graduated with her Bachelors degree in Social Work as the first generation in her family to complete higher education.
Ami moved to Anderson Valley in 2017 and lived in the area for about five years. Her parents' involvement with the adult school is how she started her work with AVAS. Her mom was enrolled in ESL, Computer Skills, and HiSet (High School Equivalency program) for a few semesters. Her dad was enrolled in Computer Skills, as well as enrolled and completed his HiSet. Ami first began as an admin assistant for our Adult Ed program. As she grew her skills and became more familiar with the community and adult school, Ami assisted a couple ESL-Beginners classes, taught one semester of Spanish, and got the job as Outreach & Support Specialist for Anderson Valley Adult School. Ami states "I've always enjoyed feeling useful and I enjoy helping others. Seeing my parents' struggles growing up as they were acclimating to a new country has always been in the back of my mind. When I saw what Anderson Valley Adult School had to offer to my parents and other adults with similar backgrounds and experiences, I knew it was the perfect place for me to work. I am grateful for the team I work with, and it was always rewarding seeing the progress of students."
